With a background in teaching, educational planning, and management, Samuel is passionate about working for and contributing to inclusive social development through quality education. Samuel has served in the Ethiopian education sector over the last three decades in various capacities, including as a high school teacher, academic dean at a teacher training college, and advisor at the regional and Federal Ministry of Education. Furthermore, he has served as senior expert and education program lead in several local and international NGOs. Samuel spent a decade serving as chief education program head at the UNESCO Ethiopia and the South Sudan offices.
During these many years of service, Samuel has enriched his knowledge and experience in how to apply and build effective education programs. Samuel is a strong advocate for the essential role of adult and nonformal education in social transformation and development. Accordingly, he has played a significant role and contributed to the baseline studies, development of adult education strategies, and tailored programs in Ethiopia and South Sudan.
The practical experiences that Samuel has developed in designing curriculum in formal and nonformal settings, teaching-learning, and assessment skills have helped him to quickly understand, internalize and lead the Speed School program in Ethiopia. Samuel is skillful in fostering synergy between stakeholders and partners towards a common goal. He is humorous, a diplomat in handling conflicts, and courageously ambitious in achieving the desired results.
