Mukuku has extensive experience as an independent consultant and activist addressing gender justice and human rights issues. She was the Executive Director of Amazone consulting and services, a Congolese firm based in Kinshasa focused on using project management and communications to promote gender justice.

In addition to working in her home country of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mukuku has worked in the Great Lakes Region of Eastern, Central Africa and francophone Africa, including Central African Republic, Chad, Gabon, Republic of Congo, Benin, Togo, and Senegal. As an engaged activist, Mukuku has worked extensively on sexual rights including LGBTQ, abortion issues, and communication rights (online security, cyber-related violence against women, among others).

She holds a MA in gender studies from the University of Cape Town, South Africa and a BA in public law from the Université Protestante du Congo.
