Abel Kassahun

Deputy Program Director

Abel currently serves as the Senior Program Coordinator for the Ethiopia Speed School Initiative, known in Ethiopia as the Accelerated Learning for Africa (ALFA) program.

Based in Awassa, the capital city of Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples Region (SNNPR), Abel maintains relationships with the Regional Education Bureau and other stakeholders key in the successful implementation of the program.

Abel also conducts capacity building and training for partners implementing the Speed School model in Ethiopia. Additionally, he supports program implementation and monitoring and ensures compliance to the program’s quality standards and, works closely with our academic partners by facilitating access to our partners and beneficiaries.

Abel has over 27 years of experience in the development sector. Prior to joining Geneva Global, he served as the Director of SOS Children’s Villages–Ethiopia where he led an education program.

He also has experience managing emergency response and community-reintegration for displaced populations under the ZOA Refugee Care program. Abel also worked as the Head of Secondary Schools in the Ethiopian Ministry of Education.

Abel holds a BA degree in Social Science, diploma in Management, certificate in Quality Management System, and is studying Rural Development and Agricultural Economics for a Master Degree.
