Abebaw Abitie, Deputy Director of Operations and Administration at Geneva Global Ethiopia, possesses exceptional skills in administration and operations management. Abebaw  holds an MA in Management and brings to Geneva Global vast experience in the Operation & Logistics Sector. He has worked for the Ethiopian Kalehiwot Church Health Department in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and for the International Crisis AID (ICA) Mission from 2002-2007. In his responsibilities, he managed Logistics for USAID, TEAR FUND, UNICEF, and JMM projects implemented under Ethiopian Kalehiwot Church Health Department, and the International Crisis Aid (ICA). From 2008 to 2012, Abebaw worked as the logistics coordinator for Geneva Global’s NPI Program Ethiopia. Under this capacity, he was responsible for the overall field coordination as Program Assistant.

Abebaw has been a member of the Geneva Global team since 2008 and is well versed in all aspects of the Speed School program.  He has worked closely with government stakeholders to adapt the program to meet the varying contexts within.  He also designs and implements training for a wide range of participants, from teachers to government officials and has delivered such training in Uganda.

As Deputy Director of Operations and Administration, Abebaw provides ongoing grant management, oversees office administration and human resources, conducts site visits, and convenes key program stakeholders and partners.  Abebaw provides technical assistance to the holistic operation of the program, including Operation Management and Logistics. Abebaw’s passion and vision brought innovations to Speed School’s Self-Help Groups, which economically and personally empower mothers across Ethiopia. Abebaw has been instrumental in the planning and execution of the client trips. During his time as Program Coordinator, Abebaw worked directly with communities and collaborating partners to implement the Speed School Program, profoundly impacting the lives of thousands of students and their families.

What’s your favorite travel site or project to visit and why?

I like to visit well-organized and unorganized Speed school sites as the former helps me see our success and the latter helps me think to try things differently and learn.

Innovative, inspired, professional

Who or what has inspired you to do the work that you do?

My colleagues at GG Ethiopia and HQ, especially Karen Robinson, who I have worked with for many years.
