May 08, 2006

imageGeneva Global announced today that Steve Beck has been appointed Chief Executive Officer. Geneva Global is a leader in applying investment principles and tools to philanthropy, providing its clients with information and access to effective life-changing programs in the global south. Mr. Beck has served as Executive Vice President since September, 2002, directing Geneva Global Advisors, the organization’s client advisory and marketing arm. He joined Geneva Global full time after serving as an advisor to the company from its inception in 1999.

Mr. Beck has 11 years of experience managing professional services businesses in the United States, Europe, southeast Asia, and South Africa. Prior to joining Geneva Global, he served as Managing Director of Gemini Consulting, a division of Cap Gemini and Monitor Group Europe, an international strategy consulting and merchant banking firm. Mr. Beck was educated at Stanford University and the London School of Economics.

Commenting on the opportunities and challenges facing the company, Mr. Beck said, “Geneva Global has been helping philanthropy fulfill its promise to change lives and build communities for the last six years. Our clients know the difference their giving makes. We will now expand our research capability and build our sector expertise so that we can equip even more donors with insight and access to the world’s most effective granting opportunities. I’m tremendously excited by the opportunity to stimulate the development of a new philanthropic marketplace where capital flows to the most effective life-changing programs, where philanthropy is measured not by how much is given but by how much is achieved.”

Mr. Beck replaces Eric Thurman who led Geneva Global for most of its history, establishing a platform for the next phase of growth. “I want to thank Eric for his leadership during Geneva Global’s formative stage,” Mr. Beck said. “Eric has poured every ounce of his abundant creativity and entrepreneurship into this organization. Under his leadership, Geneva experienced exponential growth and our clients funded projects that have changed 4.5 million lives.”

Doug Balfour, named in December 2005 as International Director, will continue in that role. Mr. Beck has appointed Senior Vice President Simon Barnes as Director pro tem of Geneva Global Advisors.

Geneva Global works for thoughtful donors who insist on results from the money they give. The company provides independent research, advice, and grant management so clients can invest where their giving will change the most lives. The company managed 19 million USD of grants in 2005 that are changing the lives of more than 2 million people in the world’s neediest places.
