The Latin America
Economic Empowerment Fund
Helping impoverished families escape poverty through business training and micro loans
Among the programs in this Fund are those that allow entrepreneurs, like Oscar Velez of Ecuador, to borrow small amounts — called microloans — to start businesses which support their families and improve their communities.
Limited access to traditional financial services and a lack of training for small business ventures are common hurdles for rural communities across the developing world, where many families survive only through simple farming or the sale of goods in the market.
Access to microloans and basic business training – the focus of this Fund – provides an opportunity for entrepreneurs, many of whom are women, to increase their income enough to pull their families out of poverty.
Through this Fund, you help poverty-stricken coastal residents of Ecuador, and create opportunities for Haitians to increase their standard of living in a country where per capita income is less than $500 a year. These programs and others encourage hard-working but impoverished entrepreneurs whose businesses will provide for their families and improve their communities in lasting ways.
Minimum Investment: $5,000
